After graduating from Hamber I went to UBC and completed two years (one year of Commerce) and then transferred to SFU where I graduated in 1984. Though I left UBC it was where I met Linda and we dated nearly 7 years before getting married in 1987.
After starting my professional human resources career working for the federal government, including an assignment as the Lead Recruiter for Expo '86, I have been working primarily in the technology sector for both start up and Fortune 500 companies both nationally and internationally. This past decade I was the HR leader for companies such as Burntsand, Intrawest, eBay, Microsoft China (Beijing based) and ElasticPath Software (working with Gord Janzen). I am now the VP, Talent & Culture for a hyper growth global open source services company, Appnovation Technologies.
Personally, I have been actively involved with my family. Emma graduated in June 2014 from Human Geography from the Arts Co-op program at UBC. She is planning to continue her education at U. Berkeley in Calif. Adam is attending UBC and is managing a significant personal investment portfolio.
Living my commitment to work life balance, I have been fortunate to take a year off work every five years to spend time with my family and travel. As a family we have traveled throughout N. America, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
I still keep active primarily cycling with the Glotman Simpson Cycling Team raising money for pancreatic cancer research. My wife and I cycled 262 KM from Vancouver to Seattle in the Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation twice. We both have cycled the Whistler Grand Fondo twice as well. I fulfilled a childhood dream and learned to play ice hockey a few years ago during one of my sabbaticals from work.
